ULCERGARD® (omeprazole) Oral Paste protects your horse's stomach when it matters most. It's the only medication FDA-approved to prevent equine gastric ulcers — proven effective in 4 out of 5 horses — and no prescription is required. Each syringe delivers 4 doses of omeprazole (2.28 g) in a smooth paste most horses accept without a fight. Available as a single syringe or a 6-pack (24 doses) for show season, longer hauls, or multiple horses.

Why prevention matters

Stress makes gastric ulcers extremely common in horses, and they often show up as a picky appetite, dull attitude, resistance under saddle, or a drop in performance. Preventing an ulcer is far easier on your horse (and your wallet) than treating one after the fact.

How it works

Omeprazole shuts down acid production at the source — the stomach's proton pumps. The paste is formulated to survive stomach acid so the active ingredient is properly absorbed, keeping acid levels down while your horse handles the stress.

When to use it

• Trailering and travel
• Shows, races, and competition
• Training and strenuous exercise
• Stall confinement or limited turnout and forage
• Any change in routine, barn, or herd

Dosing — once a day

Deposit the paste on the back of the tongue or deep in the cheek pouch. If your horse rejects any of it, give the dose again.

One syringe = a 4-day supply for a typical (600–1,200 lb) horse.

Good to know

• Well tolerated, with no known side effects
• Safety in pregnant or lactating mares has not been established
• Not for human use — keep out of reach of children; if ingested, contact a physician
• Do not use in horses intended for human consumption
• Store at 68–77°F (20–25°C); brief excursions of 59–86°F are fine
