Purina® Ultium® Senior Horse Feed is a high-fat, high-fiber formula built for the senior horse that is still working. It combines the concentrated, energy-dense nutrition of the Ultium® line with the aging support senior horses need, delivering cool-burning calories from added fat and fermentable fiber rather than from starch and sugar — 6% maximum dietary starch and 5.75% maximum sugars.

Ultium® Senior carries three Purina technologies in one bag: ActivAge® prebiotic technology to support immune function and metabolism as horses age, Outlast® gastric support technology to help maintain proper gastric pH and comfort, and the Amplify® high-fat nugget to promote ideal body condition, skin and coat. Added fiber from beet pulp and dehydrated alfalfa keeps the formula highly digestible for horses whose chewing has declined. Guaranteed 14% protein, 12.5% fat and 20% fiber in a 50 lb bag, in pelleted and extruded form.

Low Starch & Sugar

A concentrated, calorie-dense formula low in starch and sugar (6% max dietary starch, 5.75% max sugars) for senior horses sensitive to soluble carbohydrates.

Fuels Performance

Cool-burning energy from added fats and highly fermentable fibers gives active senior horses sustained energy for light through heavy work.

Supports Healthy Aging

ActivAge® prebiotic technology, antioxidants and added fat work together to support immune function and metabolism in the aging horse.

Supports Gastric Comfort

Outlast® gastric support technology with seaweed-derived minerals helps support proper gastric pH and comfort. A 4 lb meal supplies a full serving of Outlast® technology.

Highly Digestible

Added fiber from beet pulp and alfalfa supports hindgut health and digestibility for horses whose chewing or digestion has declined with age.

Taste Horses Enjoy

A pelleted and extruded formula designed for palatability so senior horses consume the nutrients they need.

Feed Purina® Ultium® Senior Horse Feed together with good-quality hay or pasture. Select the feeding rate below based on your horse’s body weight and activity level, then adjust gradually to maintain ideal body condition. Do not feed free-choice; divide the total daily amount into two or more meals per day. Always provide fresh, clean water and free-choice salt.

Daily Feeding Guidelines — Ultium® Senior (lbs per day):

Horse Body Weight — 800 lb / 1,000 lb / 1,200 lb / 1,400 lb

  • Maintenance: 2.75 – 3.25 – 4.00 – 4.50
  • Light Work: 4.00 – 5.00 – 6.00 – 7.00
  • Moderate Work: 5.50 – 6.75 – 8.00 – 9.50
  • Heavy Work: 7.00 – 8.50 – 10.25 – 11.00

Minimum hay or equivalent pasture (lbs per day): 9.50 (800 lb) – 12.00 (1,000 lb) – 14.50 (1,200 lb) – 17.00 (1,400 lb). This is the recommended minimum amount of hay to be fed. If feeding more hay, you may reduce the feeding rate of Ultium® Senior Horse Feed to maintain appropriate body condition. To meet nutrient requirements, do not feed less than 0.3 lb per 100 lb of body weight per day for mature horses at maintenance.

A 4 lb meal of Ultium® Senior supplies a full serving of Outlast® gastric support technology.

Caution

Follow label directions. Feeding added selenium at levels in excess of 0.3 ppm in the total diet is prohibited.

Important

  1. Feeding rates will vary with size, age, temperament, health status, forage quality, climate and activity level. Feed at regular times, at least twice daily. Do not feed more than 0.5 lbs/100 lbs of body weight per meal. Do not feed free-choice. Prevent rapid eating by the horse of any feedstuff.
  2. Reduce and/or delay feeding a horse which is hot, excited or showing pain, has fever or diarrhea. Consult your veterinarian if any problems arise.
  3. Always feed a minimum of 1.0 to 1.2 lbs per 100 lbs of body weight of good quality clean hay or the equivalent in pasture.
  4. Any feed changes should be made gradually over a period of 7 to 10 days. Changes in the rate of feeding should not exceed 1.0 lb per day for each horse.
  5. Provide fresh, clean water at all times. Provide your horse with access to salt. Consult with your veterinarian regularly and maintain a routine dental, parasite control and health care program for your horse.
