Purina® Horse Supplements

Purina® Horse Supplements — the full line

Match the scoop to the horse.

Purina’s five supplements target one job each — gastric comfort, muscle recovery, extra calories, forage balance, or hydration — at feeding rates measured in ounces and cups, not buckets. All five are on the shelf at Hatchet Farm.

The short version

5

Targeted formulas — one job each. Pick the need, not the prettiest bag.

2 oz

The smallest daily serving in the line (Free Balance). These are supplements, not second feeds.

90%

Up to 90% of active horses may experience gastric discomfort — why two of the five carry Outlast® technology.

95,492+

Field-test feedings behind Outlast® before launch, on top of 3,000+ hours of research. Every formula here is developed by PhD equine nutritionists.

Nutrition figures on this page are Purina® published values. *Cost-per-day and bag-life figures are our arithmetic from Purina’s published feeding rates (1,000 lb horse, typical rate) and our current prices.

Five bags.
Five different jobs.

Same idea in every bag — concentrated nutrition, small serving — but each formula is built for a different need. Start with the job, and the bag picks itself.

Why gastric leads the line

Grazer’s stomach, athlete’s schedule.

Horses evolved to graze nearly around the clock — so the stomach never stops making acid. Modern life, with its meals, stalls, trailers and training, is exactly what that stomach didn’t plan for. That’s why gastric support is the flagship of the line.

01Acid never clocks out

The equine stomach secretes acid continuously — eating or not. Steady forage soaks it up; an empty stomach doesn’t.

02Stress empties the gut

Trailering, stalling, competition, weaning and schedule changes disrupt eating right when the buffer is needed most.

03Work splashes it around

Exercise compresses the abdomen and splashes acid up onto the stomach’s unprotected upper lining.

The horse’s stomach, simplified

Upper (squamous) lining little natural protection Lower (glandular) region makes acid nonstop — but has its own defenses acid splash during work ↑
During exercise, acid from the lower stomach can splash the unprotected upper region — one reason gastric trouble is so common in hard-working horses.

The Outlast® science

A honeycomb, from the sea.

Outlast’s buffering agent is a proprietary mineral complex — calcium and magnesium from natural, seaweed-derived sources — with a porous, honeycomb-like structure. More surface area means more acid contact, and more buffering.

Minerals from the sea

A proprietary calcium-and-magnesium complex from natural marine sources — studied head-to-head against ordinary calcium carbonate.

Built like a honeycomb

The porous, honeycomb-structured mineral multiplies the surface area available to meet and neutralize stomach acid.

Fast in, long out

In a simulated gastric environment Outlast® reached 78.4% of its maximum buffering capacity at two minutes — and in live trials, gastric pH was still higher two hours after the meal.

Developed by PhD equine nutritionists, with 3,000+ hours of research and 95,492+ field-test feedings before launch. Five peer-reviewed research summaries are published on purinamills.com — all five are linked on our Outlast® product page. You’ll find the same Outlast® system in two of the five bags on this page — the supplement itself, and a full serving in every pound of RepleniMash®.

How it fits the bucket

A scoop with a job.

A supplement isn’t a second feed. The diet your horse already does well on stays put — the scoop rides on top to cover the one thing that’s missing.

01Forage first

Hay or pasture stays the base — Purina’s directions assume at least 1–1.2 lb of forage per 100 lb of body weight, every day.

02Feed for calories

If your horse needs grain, the ration carries the bulk nutrition. Easy keepers may need nothing but forage — and Free Balance.

03Supplement the job

Pick the one need — stomach, muscle, weight, minerals or hydration — and add that scoop. You’re not re-feeding the whole diet.

Before you buy

Straight answers.

Which supplement does my horse need?

Hauls, shows, stalls, or gets girthy and cranky? Outlast® — gastric comfort.

In training and slow to muscle up or recover? SuperSport® — amino acids.

Hard keeper, sale prep, or heavy work? Amplify® — 30% fat, concentrated calories.

Lives on hay or pasture with no grain? Free Balance® 12:12 — the missing vitamins and minerals.

Sweats hard, travels, or won’t drink away from home? RepleniMash® — electrolytes and hydration.

Still unsure? Ask us at the store — it’s the kind of question we answer all day.

Can I feed more than one at once?

Often, yes — they’re built for different systems, and common pairings make sense: Outlast for the stomach plus Amplify for weight, or SuperSport through training with RepleniMash after hard work. Free Balance is the exception to stack carefully — it’s designed for forage-only diets, and a horse already on a full ration is usually covered for minerals. Tell us your horse’s program and we’ll help you avoid paying for the same nutrient twice.

Is Outlast a treatment for ulcers?

No — and it’s worth being straight about. Outlast® is a nutritional supplement that supports gastric health and comfort; it doesn’t diagnose or treat disease. If you suspect ulcers — sudden weight loss, repeated colic, real pain — that’s a call to your veterinarian first. Where Outlast fits is the day-to-day: supporting a healthy gastric environment in horses whose lifestyle makes trouble likely, and ongoing support after your vet has done their part.

When do I feed each one?

Outlast: with meals 2–4 servings a day, plus a serving 30–60 minutes before trailering, riding or other stress.
SuperSport: daily alongside training — the research feeding was every day, not just work days.
Amplify: daily; start about 60 days before the competition or breeding season and build up gradually to at most 4 lb.
Free Balance: 2 oz once daily on feed, or free-choice in a covered tub.
RepleniMash: after work, after the trailer, or in hot weather — mixed 32 oz of water per pound and soaked into a mash.

How long does a bag last?

Purina prints a serving count on most of these bags: Outlast 90+ servings, Amplify 50+ servings, RepleniMash 25 servings, and SuperSport is labelled a 50-day supply. At the published rates for a 1,000 lb horse that works out to roughly: Outlast (40 lb) about 40 days at 3 one-cup servings · SuperSport (25 lb) 50 days · Amplify (50 lb) 50 days at 1 lb/day, less in heavy use · Free Balance (25 lb) about 200 days at 2 oz · RepleniMash (25 lb) 12–25 days depending on how often you mash. That puts the line between about 24¢ and $1.50 a day.

Will my horse actually eat them?

These are the palatable end of the supplement world — no powders to hide. Outlast is a pellet most horses take like a treat (it also comes as Outlast® Horse Treats, 3.5 lb — $9.99, the no-scoop pre-trailer option). Free Balance granules are flavored for free-choice feeding, and RepleniMash is a soaked mash — typically the first bucket licked clean.

Are there feeds with these built in?

Yes — Purina builds the Outlast® system into several of its complete feeds, and every RepleniMash pound already carries a full Outlast serving. On our shelf right now: the EquiTub™ with ClariFly® puts free-choice gastric support (plus fly control) out on pasture, and Omega Match™ Ration Balancing Feed brings the fatty acids and antioxidants of fresh pasture into a balancer. If you’d rather feed one bag than two, ask us in store and we’ll match a feed to your horse’s program.

How do I start a horse on a new supplement?

Like any feed change: gradually, over a week or so. Amplify has the most explicit ramp in its directions — start at ½ lb a day and add another ½ lb every two days — but the same habit serves every bag on this page. And keep the forage foundation: Purina’s directions assume at least 1–1.2 lb of hay or pasture per 100 lb of body weight daily.
