While originally formulated for growing horses and broodmares, Triple Crown Balancer is a highly fortified, low sugar and starch pelleted supplement, ideal for easy keepers and horses with metabolic disease and Insulin Resistance. It can be used to balance pasture and/or hay and improve nutrition in diets when feeding below the recommended feeding rate and/or mixing with whole grains (corn, oats, barley).

  • Ideal For: Overweight horses, Broodmares, Growing horses, Metabolic horses
  • Features: Whole grain free, Low starch & sugar, Low feeding rate
  • Helps Support: Unbalanced hay, pasture & grain diets, Insulin sensitivity, Immune function, Heat stress, Coat & hoof health

Triple Crown Balancer is a concentrated ration balancer designed to provide essential vitamins, minerals, and amino acids for horses receiving most of their calories from forage or unfortified grains. Feeding rates should be based on the horse’s body weight, diet type, and overall condition. Monitor your horse regularly and adjust feeding amounts as needed to maintain optimal body condition and health.

Balancing Pasture and/or Hay-Only Diets

When horses are consuming primarily hay or pasture, Triple Crown Balancer helps ensure proper nutrient intake. These recommendations assume the horse is consuming at least 1.5% to 2% of its body weight in forage daily.

A 600-pound horse should receive approximately 0.5 to 0.75 pounds per day, while a 900-pound horse typically requires 0.75 to 1 pound daily. Horses weighing around 1,100 pounds generally need 1 to 1.5 pounds per day, and a 1,300-pound horse typically requires about 1.5 pounds daily.

For young horses, weanlings weighing 400 to 600 pounds should receive approximately 0.5 to 0.75 pounds per day, while yearlings weighing 700 to 800 pounds generally require about 1 pound daily to support proper growth and development.

Balancing Unfortified Grain Diets

Triple Crown Balancer can also be used alongside unfortified grains such as oats, corn, barley, rice bran, or beet pulp to provide complete nutritional balance. Feeding rates remain similar to those used for forage-based diets.

A 600-pound horse typically requires 0.5 to 0.75 pounds per day, while a 900-pound horse needs approximately 0.75 to 1 pound daily. Horses weighing around 1,100 pounds generally require 1 to 1.5 pounds per day, and 1,300-pound horses typically need about 1.5 pounds daily.

For younger horses, weanlings (400 to 600 pounds) should receive 0.5 to 0.75 pounds daily, while yearlings (700 to 800 pounds) should receive about 1 pound per day.

To maintain the desired body condition, adjust the amount of forage or unfortified grains rather than increasing the balancer above recommended levels. If a horse requires more than the recommended amount of Triple Crown Balancer to maintain weight, consider switching to Triple Crown Lite or adding a Triple Crown performance or senior feed for additional calories.

Balancing Diets When Feeding Less Than the Recommended Amount of Fortified Feed

When horses are fed less than the recommended amount of fortified grain or concentrate, Triple Crown Balancer can be used to help meet nutritional requirements.

A 600-pound horse may require approximately 0.25 to 0.50 pounds per day, while a 900-pound horse typically needs 0.50 to 0.75 pounds daily. Horses weighing around 1,100 pounds generally require 0.75 to 1 pound per day, and 1,300-pound horses typically need about 1 pound daily.

For young horses, weanlings (400 to 600 pounds) should receive approximately 0.50 to 0.75 pounds per day, while yearlings (700 to 800 pounds) generally require about 1 pound daily.

Additional Feeding Considerations

These feeding recommendations assume that horses are consuming adequate forage. Nutritional needs may vary depending on age, workload, metabolism, weather conditions, and forage quality, so adjustments may be necessary.

To maintain proper body condition, adjust the levels of forage or unfortified grains in the diet rather than increasing the balancer beyond recommended feeding rates. If additional calories are required, consider incorporating a higher-calorie feed such as a performance or senior formula.

General Feeding Guidelines

Always provide horses with free-choice salt and unlimited access to fresh, clean water. Store the product in a cool, dry location to maintain freshness and quality. Inspect the feed regularly and do not feed if it is old, moldy, or contaminated with insects, as this may pose health risks.

Caution

Follow label directions carefully. Chromium supplementation should not exceed 4 mg per day. Feeding added selenium above 0.30 ppm in the total diet is prohibited. When fed as directed, Triple Crown Balancer does not exceed 3 mg of added selenium per horse per day. This product contains added copper and should not be fed to sheep.
