Begin feeding Strategy® Professional Formula GX Horse Feed using the amounts recommended for your horse’s body weight and class. After observing your horse over time, the feeding rate may be gradually increased or decreased to achieve and maintain the desired body condition and weight. Feed adjustments should be made slowly, allowing the horse time to adapt to changes in intake.

When feeding with hay or pasture, provide a minimum amount of good-quality forage daily based on body weight. Horses weighing approximately 600 pounds should receive at least 7.0 pounds of hay or equivalent pasture per day, while 800-pound horses require a minimum of 9.5 pounds, 1,000-pound horses 12.0 pounds, 1,200-pound horses 14.5 pounds, and 1,400-pound horses 17.0 pounds. If additional hay is fed beyond these minimums, reduce the amount of Strategy® GX horse feed by 1.0 pound for every additional 2.0 pounds of hay provided.

For mature horses in light work, daily feeding rates of Strategy® GX typically range from approximately 3.5 pounds for a 600-pound horse up to 7.75 pounds for a 1,400-pound horse. Horses in moderate work require higher intake, generally ranging from 4.75 pounds per day for a 600-pound horse up to 10.75 pounds per day for a 1,400-pound horse. Heavy work horses need increased energy support and may be fed approximately 6.0 to 13.5 pounds per day, depending on body weight. Horses performing very heavy work may require the highest feeding rates, ranging from about 8.75 pounds daily for a 600-pound horse up to 20.25 pounds daily for a 1,400-pound horse.

Broodmares should be fed according to their stage of reproduction. During early gestation (the first 250 days), mares typically require lower feeding rates, ranging from approximately 2.5 pounds per day for a 600-pound mare to 5.5 pounds per day for a 1,400-pound mare. During late gestation (the final 90 days), nutrient needs increase, and feeding rates generally range from about 3.5 to 8.0 pounds per day depending on body weight. Lactating mares, when fed separately from their foals, require significantly higher intake to support milk production, typically ranging from 7.75 pounds per day for a 600-pound mare up to 17.75 pounds per day for a 1,400-pound mare. Breeding stallions also require elevated feeding levels, commonly ranging from 4.25 to 9.5 pounds per day based on body weight and condition.

For growing horses from weaned foals through yearlings, provide adequate forage along with Strategy® GX to support healthy growth. Minimum hay or pasture intake ranges from approximately 3.0 pounds per day for a 300-pound horse up to 8.5 pounds per day for a 700-pound horse. Strategy® GX feeding rates for this group generally range from 7.5 to 10.25 pounds per day, depending on body weight and desired growth rate. Use the lower end of the feeding range to support moderate growth and the higher end to support more rapid growth.

To meet nutrient requirements, do not feed less than 0.3 pounds of Strategy® GX per 100 pounds of body weight per day for mature horses, or less than 0.75 pounds per 100 pounds of body weight per day for yearlings. If a horse gains excessive weight at these minimum feeding levels, replace Strategy® GX with Purina® Enrich Plus® Ration Balancing Feed. A daily intake of 4 pounds of Strategy® GX provides a full serving of Outlast® supplement to support gastric health.

Feed at consistent times each day, divide the total daily ration into multiple meals, and always provide access to fresh, clean water and free-choice salt.
