Purina® Omega Match® Ration Balancing Horse Feed is designed to complement and fortify hay or pasture-based diets. It may be used as the sole concentrate in the feeding program or incorporated alongside other feeds as a supplemental source of omega fatty acids.

Begin with the feeding rates listed below and adjust gradually to maintain optimal body condition. Individual needs may vary depending on metabolism, forage quality, climate, workload, and overall health.

Mature Horses (Based on 1,000 lb Body Weight)

Always provide a minimum of 20 lbs of good-quality hay or equivalent pasture daily.

Maintenance

Feed 2.0 lbs per day of Omega Match® Ration Balancing Horse Feed along with 20 lbs of forage.

Light Work

Feed 2.5 lbs per day with 20 lbs of forage.

Moderate Work

Feed 2.5 lbs per day with 20 lbs of forage.

Horses with higher calorie demands may require additional grain or a Purina® performance formula to meet increased energy needs.

Mares Through 2nd Trimester

Feed 2.5 lbs per day with 20 lbs of forage.

During the last trimester and through lactation, additional calories should be supplied by adding grain or a Purina® product designed for breeding and growing horses.

Adjusting for Different Body Weights

For horses that do not approximate 1,000 lbs, estimate maintenance feeding rates using:

• 0.2 to 0.4 lbs Omega Match® per 100 lbs of body weight per day
  
• Along with appropriate forage intake
  

For example, a 1,200-lb horse may require approximately 2.4–4.8 lbs per day depending on condition and workload.

Growing Horses

4–8 Months (400–700 lbs)

Feed 4.0 to 5.0 lbs per day along with 8–14 lbs of hay or pasture.

9–17 Months (700–900 lbs)

Feed 3.0 to 4.0 lbs per day with 14–18 lbs of hay or pasture.

18–24 Months

Feed 2.5 to 3.0 lbs per day with 18–20 lbs of hay or pasture.

More rapid growth rates may be achieved by adding grain; however, growth is more safely and consistently supported by feeding a Purina® product specifically formulated for growing horses rather than straight grain diets.

Additional Feeding Information

A 2-lb meal of Omega Match® Ration Balancing Horse Feed supplies a full serving of Outlast® supplement, supporting gastric health.

Do not feed more than 0.5 lbs per 100 lbs of body weight per meal. Divide total daily intake into at least two feedings, with consistent feeding times each day. Do not feed free-choice, and prevent rapid consumption.

Always provide:

• 1.0–1.2 lbs of high-quality hay per 100 lbs of body weight daily
  
• Free-choice salt
  
• Unlimited access to fresh, clean water
  

Management & Transition Guidelines

Feeding rates vary based on age, temperament, health status, forage quality, climate, and activity level. Monitor body condition regularly and adjust feeding gradually.

When changing feeds:

• Transition over 7–10 days
  
• Gradually increase the new feed while decreasing the old
  
• Do not change feeding rates by more than 1 lb per day per horse
  

Reduce or delay feeding if a horse is hot, excited, showing signs of pain, fever, or diarrhea. Consult your veterinarian if concerns arise. Maintain regular dental care, parasite control, and veterinary oversight.

Caution

Follow label directions carefully.

Feeding added selenium resulting in total dietary levels exceeding 0.3 ppm is prohibited.
