Provides 100% of the required protein, vitamins and minerals when fed as directed*
Designed to be fed with hay or pasture
Miniature Horse and Pony Feed is formulated to be fed alongside good-quality hay or pasture to support miniature horses and ponies at all life stages. Begin feeding according to body weight and lifestyle category. After observing your horse’s condition for a period of time, adjust the feeding rate up or down by approximately 10% to maintain ideal body condition and weight.
Always provide a minimum daily amount of hay or equivalent pasture. As a general guideline, horses should receive approximately 1.2 lbs of hay per 100 lbs of body weight per day. For example, a 100-lb miniature horse should receive at least 1.2 lbs of hay daily, while a 700-lb pony should receive at least 8.4 lbs per day.
If feeding more hay than the recommended minimum, reduce the amount of Miniature Horse and Pony Feed by 0.5 lb for every additional 1 lb of hay fed. For example, if a 500-lb light-working pony is fed 7 lbs of hay instead of 6 lbs, reduce the concentrate portion by 0.5 lb (from 3.3 lbs to 2.8 lbs per day).
For horses at maintenance, feeding rates range from approximately:
Horses in light work generally require:
For moderate work levels, feed approximately:
Early Gestation (first 250 days):
Feed similar to maintenance levels, ranging from 0.4 to 3.2 lbs per day depending on body weight.
Late Gestation (last 90 days):
Nutritional needs increase to approximately 0.7 to 4.7 lbs per day, depending on size.
Lactation (when fed separately):
Energy demands rise significantly, requiring approximately 1.5 to 10.4 lbs per day, depending on body weight.
If mare and foal are fed together, increase the daily amount offered by:
Breeding Stallions:
Feed approximately 0.8 to 5.5 lbs per day, depending on body weight and condition.
Provide at least 0.6 to 4.2 lbs of hay daily, depending on body weight (50–350 lbs). Feed Miniature Horse and Pony Feed at approximately 0.6 to 4.0 lbs per day, adjusted to support steady growth.
Offer 0.9 to 6.3 lbs of hay daily depending on body weight (75–525 lbs). Concentrate feeding rates typically range from 0.8 to 5.4 lbs per day.
Provide 1.0 to 7.2 lbs of hay daily depending on body weight (85–600 lbs). Feed concentrate at approximately 0.7 to 4.8 lbs per day based on size and growth stage.
To meet nutrient requirements, do not feed less than 0.3 lb per 100 lbs of body weight per day.
Example:
A 200-lb miniature horse has two 100-lb increments (200 ÷ 100 = 2). Therefore, do not feed less than 0.6 lb per day (2 × 0.3 lb).
If your horse gains excessive weight at this minimum feeding rate, transition to Enrich Plus® Ration Balancing Feed or WellSolve W/C® Horse Feed to provide essential nutrients with controlled calorie intake.
Feeding rates vary based on metabolism, age, health status, forage quality, climate, and activity level. Feed at regular times daily, with at least two feedings per day and three preferred when possible. Feed from troughs positioned at normal head height or lower to encourage natural eating posture.
Do not feed free-choice, and prevent rapid consumption. Reduce or delay feeding if a horse is hot, excited, in pain, feverish, or experiencing diarrhea. Consult a veterinarian if concerns arise.
Always provide:
Maintain regular dental exams, parasite control, and veterinary oversight.
Transition gradually over 7–10 days. Mix the new feed with the old, slowly increasing the new feed while decreasing the previous feed. Sudden feed changes should be avoided.
Store feed in a dry, well-ventilated area protected from rodents and insects. Do not feed moldy or insect-infested product, as it may cause illness, performance loss, or death.
