Purina® Enrich Plus® Ration Balancing Horse Feed is specifically designed to complement and fortify diets based primarily on hay or pasture. This concentrated ration balancer provides essential protein, vitamins, and minerals that may be lacking in forage, without adding excess calories. Always feed Enrich Plus alongside good-quality hay or pasture, and adjust feeding rates based on the horse’s age, body condition, workload, and forage quality.

Mature Horses

For mature horses at maintenance, feed approximately 1.0 lb of Enrich Plus per day along with a minimum of 20 lbs of hay or equivalent pasture daily. Horses in light work may require increased nutrient support and should be fed 1.5 to 2.5 lbs per day, while continuing to provide at least 20 lbs of forage. Horses in moderate work may also be fed 1.5 to 2.5 lbs per day; however, horses with higher energy demands may benefit from the addition of a grain or a Purina® performance feed designed to supply extra calories.

For mature horses whose body weight does not closely match standard expectations, feeding rates can be estimated by providing 0.1 to 0.2 lbs of Enrich Plus and 2.0 lbs of hay or pasture per 100 lbs of body weight per day.

Broodmares (Through Second Trimester)

Mares during the first and second trimesters of gestation can be fed 1.0 to 2.0 lbs of Enrich Plus per day, along with a minimum of 20 lbs of hay or pasture. During the third trimester and through lactation, nutrient and calorie requirements increase significantly. These additional needs are best met by adding a grain or a Purina® feed formulated specifically for breeding and growing horses. For easy-keeper mares in the third trimester, feed 0.2 lbs of Enrich Plus per 100 lbs of body weight per day.

Growing Horses

For growing horses, Enrich Plus can be used to support balanced development when fed with adequate forage. Horses aged 4 to 8 months and weighing approximately 400–700 lbs should be fed 2.5 to 3.0 lbs of Enrich Plus per day, along with 8 to 14 lbs of hay or pasture. Horses aged 9 to 17 months weighing 700–900 lbs typically require 2.0 to 2.5 lbs per day, supported by 14 to 18 lbs of forage. Horses aged 18 to 24 months weighing 900–1,000 lbs should be fed approximately 2.0 lbs per day, along with 18 to 20 lbs of hay or pasture.

More rapid growth rates may be achieved by adding grain to the diet; however, due to the nutritional inconsistencies of straight grain feeding, safer and more consistent growth is best achieved by feeding a Purina® product specifically formulated for growing horses.

Best Feeding Practices

Feed Enrich Plus at regular times each day, dividing the total daily amount into multiple meals when possible. Always provide fresh, clean water and free-choice salt. Monitor body condition regularly and adjust feeding rates gradually as needed. Maintain a consistent parasite control program and ensure routine dental care to support optimal feed utilization.
