Designed to be fed with hay or pasture
Begin feeding WellSolve L/S® Horse Feed according to your horse’s body weight and lifestyle category, using the recommended feeding rates as a starting point. These feeding guidelines are intended to be used along with good-quality hay or pasture, and actual feeding amounts may need to be adjusted upward or downward based on individual metabolism, forage quality and quantity, management practices, and overall body condition. Monitor your horse closely and make gradual adjustments to maintain optimal weight and performance.
For horses at maintenance, daily feeding levels generally range from approximately 3.0 pounds for a 400-pound horse up to 7.0 pounds per day for horses weighing 1,200 pounds and above. Horses in light performance work or breeding stallions typically require higher feeding rates, ranging from about 5.0 pounds per day for lighter horses up to approximately 12.0 pounds per day for horses weighing 1,600 pounds or more. These increased levels help support added energy demands while maintaining controlled carbohydrate intake.
Pregnant mares during the first 1–8 months of gestation generally follow feeding rates similar to maintenance horses, starting at approximately 3.0 pounds per day for a 400-pound mare and increasing to about 7.0 pounds per day for mares weighing 1,200 pounds or more. During the last 90 days of pregnancy, nutrient requirements rise significantly, and feeding rates should be increased accordingly, ranging from approximately 4.0 pounds per day for a 400-pound mare up to around 11.0 pounds per day for mares weighing 1,600 pounds or more.
Lactating mares require additional nutritional support to maintain body condition and milk production. When feeding WellSolve L/S® to lactating mares, provide a minimum of 1.5 pounds of hay per 100 pounds of body weight daily, and feed concentrate amounts ranging from approximately 4.0 pounds per day for lighter mares to 12.0 pounds per day for heavier mares. Foals nursing mares fed WellSolve L/S® should be creep-fed separately with a growth-appropriate feed such as Ultium® Growth Horse Formula, Omolene® #300, or Strategy® GX Horse Feed.
Feed WellSolve L/S® at regular times each day, dividing the total daily ration into at least two meals, with three to four smaller feedings preferred for best results. Do not feed more than 0.6 pounds per 100 pounds of body weight in a single meal, and do not feed free-choice. Horses should be fed in a natural position using troughs placed at normal head height or lower. Always provide 1.0 to 1.5 pounds of clean, good-quality hay per 100 pounds of body weight daily, along with free-choice salt and continuous access to fresh, clean water.
This product is not recommended for young, growing horses under two years of age. Horses in intense or heavy work may require a higher-calorie diet and should be transitioned to feeds designed for greater energy demands, such as Ultium® Competition Horse Formula or Strategy® GX Horse Feed. Horses sensitive to dietary carbohydrates should be managed under the guidance of a veterinarian or equine nutritionist.
When transitioning to WellSolve L/S®, make all feed changes gradually over a 7–10 day period. Mix the new feed with the previous ration, slowly increasing the amount of WellSolve L/S® while decreasing the old feed. Changes in feeding rate should not exceed one pound per horse per day. Maintain a consistent parasite control program, ensure horses receive routine dental care, and reduce or delay feeding if a horse is overheated, stressed, or unwell.
Store feed in a dry, well-ventilated area, protected from insects and rodents. Do not feed moldy or insect-infested feed, as it may cause illness, performance loss, or death.
