Omolene® 500 Competition Horse Feed is formulated to support performance horses with elevated energy needs. Begin by feeding according to your horse’s body weight and workload category. After monitoring body condition, topline, and performance over time, gradually adjust the feeding rate up or down to maintain optimal weight and conditioning.

Always provide a minimum amount of high-quality hay or equivalent pasture daily. An 800-pound horse should receive at least 9.5 pounds of hay or pasture per day. A 1,000-pound horse should receive at least 12.0 pounds daily, and a 1,200-pound horse should receive at least 14.5 pounds daily. If feeding more forage than these minimum recommendations, the amount of Omolene® 500 may be reduced accordingly to maintain proper body condition.

For an 800-pound horse, feed approximately 4.25 pounds per day for light work, 5.75 pounds per day for moderate work, and 7.25 pounds per day for heavy work.

For a 1,000-pound horse, feed approximately 5.25 pounds daily for light work, 7.00 pounds daily for moderate work, and 8.75 pounds daily for heavy work.

For a 1,200-pound horse, feed approximately 6.25 pounds daily for light work, 8.25 pounds daily for moderate work, and 10.50 pounds daily for heavy work.

To meet minimum nutrient requirements, do not feed less than 0.3 pounds per 100 pounds of body weight per day (equivalent to 3 pounds daily for a 1,000-pound horse). If your horse gains excessive weight at this minimum feeding rate, transition to Purina® Enrich Plus® Ration Balancing Horse Feed to maintain balanced nutrition with fewer calories.

Feeding rates of Omolene® 500 and forage may be adjusted based on performance intensity and body condition. For horses requiring additional calorie density, the feed may be top-dressed with Purina® Amplify® High-Fat Supplement. Hard-working performance horses may also benefit from supplementation with Purina® SuperSport® Amino Acid Supplement to support muscle recovery and performance.

Important Feeding Guidelines

Feeding rates vary based on size, metabolism, health status, forage quality, climate, and workload.

For best results:

  • Feed at regular times, at least twice daily
  • Do not feed more than 0.5 pounds per 100 pounds of body weight per meal
  • Do not feed free-choice
  • Prevent rapid eating

Always provide a minimum of 1.0 to 1.2 pounds of good-quality hay per 100 pounds of body weight daily, along with unlimited access to fresh, clean water and free-choice salt.

Reduce or delay feeding if a horse is hot, excited, in pain, running a fever, or experiencing diarrhea. Consult your veterinarian if any concerns arise. Maintain a routine dental, parasite control, and veterinary health program.

Changing to Omolene® 500

Transition gradually over a period of 7 to 10 days to support digestive health. Mix the new feed with the previous feed, slowly increasing the amount of Omolene® 500 while decreasing the old feed. Changes in feeding rate should not exceed 1 pound per day per horse.

Caution

Store in a dry, well-ventilated area protected from rodents and insects.

Do not feed moldy or insect-infested feed, as it may cause illness, performance loss, or death
