Feeding Directions With Hay or Pasture

IMPACT® All Stages 14:6 Textured is designed to be fed alongside good-quality hay or pasture to support horses at all life stages, from growing foals to mature performance horses. Begin feeding according to the horse’s body weight and lifestyle category, then adjust gradually to maintain proper body condition, growth rate, and performance. Always provide clean, fresh water and free-choice salt.

Growing Horses

For weaned foals through yearlings, provide a minimum daily amount of good-to-excellent quality hay or equivalent pasture based on body weight. Horses weighing approximately 300 lbs should receive at least 3.0 lbs of hay per day, increasing to 8.5 lbs per day for horses weighing 700 lbs. Along with forage, feed IMPACT® All Stages 14:6 Textured at rates ranging from 7.5 to 10.25 lbs per day, depending on body weight and desired growth rate. Use the lower end of the feeding range to support moderate growth and the higher end to support faster growth or horses in training. Make any changes in feeding rate gradually.

For suckling foals fed individually, begin offering IMPACT® All Stages 14:6 Textured early and feed at a rate of 1.0 lb per day per month of age until the foal is fully weaned.

Mature Horses

For mature horses, provide a minimum amount of forage daily based on body weight, ranging from 7.0 lbs per day for a 600-lb horse up to 17.0 lbs per day for a 1,400-lb horse. If feeding more hay than the recommended minimum, reduce the amount of IMPACT® All Stages 14:6 Textured by 1.0 lb for every additional 2.0 lbs of hay fed.

Horses at maintenance typically require 2.25 to 5.0 lbs per day, depending on body weight. Horses in light work generally require 3.5 to 7.75 lbs per day, while horses in moderate work may need 4.75 to 10.75 lbs per day. Heavy work horses often require 6.0 to 13.5 lbs per day, and horses in very heavy work may require up to 8.75 to 20.25 lbs per day to support increased energy demands.

Broodmares and Breeding Stallions

For mares in early gestation (first 250 days), feed approximately 2.5 to 5.5 lbs per day, depending on body weight. During late gestation (last 90 days), nutritional demands increase, and feeding rates should be raised to approximately 3.5 to 8.0 lbs per day. Lactating mares, when fed separately from foals, require significantly higher intake and may be fed 7.75 to 17.75 lbs per day based on body weight. Breeding stallions generally require 4.25 to 9.5 lbs per day to maintain body condition and reproductive performance.

Feeding Management Guidelines

To meet nutrient requirements, do not feed less than 0.4 lbs per 100 lbs of body weight per day. If a horse gains excessive weight at this minimum feeding rate, transition to Purina® Enrich Plus® Ration Balancing Horse Feed. Feed horses at consistent times each day and divide the total daily ration into multiple meals. Monitor body condition regularly and adjust intake as needed based on workload, forage quality, and individual metabolism.

Store feed in a dry, well-ventilated area protected from rodents and insects. Do not feed moldy or insect-infested feed, as it may cause illness, reduced performance, or death. Use only as directed.
