Changing an order later Call the store by 2 pm the day before your delivery and we’ll add to it or swap what’s on it. After that the truck is loaded in route order, so getting to your order means unloading everything in front of it. We’ll try — but the cutoff is how every barn on the route gets its feed on time.

You’re billed for what goes on the truck A card on file is charged as your order is loaded, so you pay for exactly what was loaded — nothing more. If something is short or out of stock it never goes on the truck, so it never hits your card. There’s no COD — we don’t take checks or collect at the door. Never enter card details on this page. We’ll set the card up with you on the phone or at the store.

Simple rule: if you’re about 30 minutes from any Hatchet store, we deliver. That takes in most of Rensselaer, Albany, Schenectady and Columbia counties, plus southern Saratoga, northern Greene and the Palatine Bridge end of Montgomery — and it keeps growing.

Is there a delivery fee or a minimum order?

Orders over $300 deliver free anywhere inside our territory — the same threshold you get ordering online. Under that, or outside the counties we list, there may be a delivery charge; we’ll tell you what it is before anything is scheduled rather than surprising you on the invoice.

How does billing work if something is short?

Most delivery customers keep a card on file, and it’s charged as the order is loaded onto the truck — so you’re billed for exactly what went on it. If a bag is short or an item is out of stock, it never gets loaded and it never hits your card. No credit to chase afterwards.

Do I have to open a charge account?

No. Most delivery customers just keep a card on file, and it’s charged as the order is loaded. A net-30 charge account is optional and goes through a separate credit application. What we can’t do is COD — no checks, and nothing collected at the door — because payment is settled when your order goes on the truck, before it ever reaches you.

What if nobody is there when you come?

That’s normal and it’s fine. Give us a drop location and any access notes — gate code, which barn, where the dogs are — and the driver will handle it.

Can I change an order before it goes out?

Yes — as long as it’s before we load, which is normally 2 pm the day before your delivery. Call the store and we’ll add to it or swap what’s on it. After the cutoff it gets very hard: the truck is packed in route order, so reaching your order means unloading everything stacked in front of it. We’ll always try to accommodate you, but we run a tight schedule so that every barn on the route gets its feed on time.

How do I get my farm tax exemption on the account?

Online, yourself, in about two minutes. Farmers engaged in farm production for sale, and commercial horse boarding operations, may use New York Form ST-125 to buy qualifying items without sales tax. Sign in to your hatchetfarm.com account, open Tax Exemption, and submit your certificate there — it applies to your orders automatically, so nothing has to be dropped off or re-keyed at the counter. New York requires the certificate be renewed every three years.

How far out do you deliver?

About 30 minutes from whichever of our nine stores is closest to you — not 30 minutes from one warehouse, which is why the area is wider than people expect. In practice that’s most of Rensselaer, Albany, Schenectady and Columbia counties, the southern end of Saratoga, northern Greene, and the Palatine Bridge corner of Montgomery. If you’re near the edge, send the form and name your town; we’ll tell you straight whether we can reach you and whether it carries a surcharge.
