Omolene® 300 Mare & Foal Horse Feed is specially formulated to support broodmares, suckling foals, weanlings, and growing yearlings. Begin feeding according to your horse’s body weight and life stage. After monitoring body condition and growth, gradually adjust the feeding rate to maintain optimal weight, steady development, and overall health.

Broodmares

Always provide a minimum amount of high-quality hay or equivalent pasture daily.

Minimum Forage Requirements

Body Weight - Minimum Hay or Pasture

800 lbs - 9.5 lbs/day

1,000 lbs - 12.0 lbs/day

1,200 lbs - 14.5 lbs/day

If feeding more forage than listed, you may reduce the amount of Omolene® 300 accordingly to maintain ideal body condition.

Late Gestation (Last Trimester)

Nutritional demands increase significantly during the final 90 days of pregnancy.

• 800 lb mare: 4.0 lbs/day
  
• 1,000 lb mare: 5.25 lbs/day
  
• 1,200 lb mare: 6.25 lbs/day
  

Lactating Mares

Milk production requires substantial energy and nutrient intake.

• 800 lb mare: 8.0 lbs/day
  
• 1,000 lb mare: 9.5 lbs/day
  
• 1,200 lb mare: 11.0 lbs/day
  

Feeding rates and forage intake may be adjusted as needed. Additional calories may be supplied by top-dressing with Purina® Amplify® High Fat Supplement if greater energy density is required.

Suckling Foals

Begin offering Omolene® 300 within two weeks of birth to encourage early feed intake and support healthy growth.

Feed approximately:

• 1.0 lb per month of age per day
  

Example:

A 3-month-old foal should receive approximately 3 lbs per day, divided into multiple feedings.

Ensure fresh feed is offered daily and monitor intake closely.

Weaned Foals Through Yearlings

Feed Omolene® 300 along with appropriate forage to support steady, balanced growth.

Daily Feeding Rates

300 lbs - 7.25–7.75 lbs

400 lbs - 7.50–8.50 lbs

500 lbs - 7.00–9.25 lbs

600 lbs - 7.50–9.50 lbs

700 lbs - 7.75–10.00 lbs

• Use the lower end of the range for moderate growth rates.
  
• Use the higher end to support more rapid growth.
  

700-lb Weanlings

Horses expected to mature at 1,000 lbs or greater may either:

• Continue on Omolene® 300, or
  
• Transition to Purina® Omolene® 200 Performance Horse Feed, depending on growth and management goals.
  

Minimum Feeding Requirements

• Do not feed less than 0.35 lbs per 100 lbs of body weight per day for mature horses (3.5 lbs per 1,000 lbs BW).
  
• Do not feed less than 0.75 lbs per 100 lbs of body weight per day for yearlings (3.75 lbs per 500 lbs BW).
  

If your horse gains excessive weight at the minimum feeding rate, transition to Purina® Enrich Plus® Ration Balancing Horse Feed to provide essential nutrients with controlled calorie intake.

Best Feeding Practices

Feeding rates vary depending on age, temperament, forage quality, climate, health status, and activity level.

For optimal results:

• Feed at regular times, at least twice daily
  
• Do not feed more than 0.5 lbs per 100 lbs of body weight per meal
  
• Do not feed free-choice
  
• Prevent rapid eating
  
• Always provide 1.0–1.2 lbs of good-quality hay per 100 lbs of body weight daily
  
• Provide free-choice salt
  
• Ensure continuous access to fresh, clean water
  

Reduce or delay feeding if a horse is hot, excited, showing signs of pain, fever, or diarrhea. Consult your veterinarian if concerns arise. Maintain routine dental exams, parasite control, and veterinary oversight.

Changing to Omolene® 300

Transition gradually over 7–10 days:

1. Mix the new feed with the current feed.
   
2. Gradually increase Omolene® 300 while decreasing the old feed.
   
3. Do not change feeding rates by more than 1 lb per day per horse.
   

Caution

Store in a dry, well-ventilated area, protected from rodents and insects.

Do not feed moldy or insect-infested feed, as it may cause illness, performance loss, or death.
