Start your coop with about a 6” depth of Hempsteed bedding.

  • Instead of a weekly scoop out, you let the bedding absorb manure  over time.
  • Lightly rake the top of the bed,  to mix it up, then add small amounts of hemp bedding if you start to notice a smell or when you feel it needs freshening. Raking will help break down the feces.

Making Compost-  Hemp, chicken manure and air are the perfect home for beneficial aerobic microbes that break down the chicken poop into compost. The mixture of Hempsteed bedding and chicken droppings is a great carbon to nitrogen ratio to attract these beneficial microbes and makes a  better smelling environment for your flock.
